  • Jayce Ventura: Ghost Detective

Title – Jayce Ventura: Ghost Detective
    Author – Serena Akeroyd
    Genre – Paranormal Romance
    Release Date – January 31, 2017

It says a lot about a person when their best friend is a ghost.

But, Jayce Ventura, ghost detective, has nothing but the deceased as friends. With no love life, no social life, and only Ben and Jerry who’ll put up with her, something’s gotta give. But what?

When Drake Edwin comes to her for help in finding closure with his nephew’s death, Jayce is dragged out of her apathy and into the weird and wonderful world of emotion.

Only trouble is, Drake’s nephew didn’t OD, he was murdered, and Jayce is the only one who can make good this situation.

Mixing work and pleasure is never the best idea, but when you throw murder into the scenario, it gets a thousand times worse.

Only a helping hand from the other side will get this duo together, but even ghosts can be bitter. Will Drake and Jayce ever make it? Or were they broken before they managed to meet…?

“Is he certain that Nate Cambright was behind this?”

Drake’s voice penetrates the ghostly conversation. “It’s more circumstantial than I’d like. Nate threatened David, told him he’d regret it if he went to the party where his drink was spiked.”

    “Can he remember anything else?”

“What did they spike the drink with?” David asks, and I pass on the question to Drake who answers:

    “Ketamine.”

“Special K?” He huffs. “Then it’s Nate. He was dealing it at school.”

When I pass that on to Drake, his eyes bug out. “Are you being serious? You knew and didn’t tell me?”

“What? And make my life a thousand times worse?” David shakes his head. “Nate’s the most arrogant SOB because of who his dad is. He thinks nothing can touch him. If people know I died of a Special K overdose, then they’ll know he was the one to spike my drink.”

“David, I’ve heard of Ketamine. It’s hallucinogenic. Before you passed, you’ll have been hallucinating. Think back,” Kenna tells him. “Do you remember anything from that time?”

“I’ve thought about that night every day since, Kenna.”

She narrows her eyes at him when he bows his head. “You’re keeping something back. I can sense it.”

“No, I’m not. Why would I?” He licks his lips. “The only thing I can remember is…well, I do remember Nate getting in my face. He was laughing at me. Taunting me.” When I tell Drake that, he bites out, “What are we going to do? He needs to pay.”

“Well, first things first, we need to get David out of here.”

Drake frowns. “How do you even do that?”

“That’s for me to know and for you not to find out.”

His glower doesn’t affect me. Hell, Kenna does nothing but glare at me for most of every, single, freakin’ day! “If it’s going to affect my nephew, then I think I deserve to know.”

David’s chest puffs up again. “That’s my uncle,” he tells Kenna, who really isn’t impressed.

“Yeah, I got that.” She rolls her eyes. “Tell him not to get his knickers in a twist.”

I sniff. “It’s not like I’m going to do something bad, for God’s sake. I’m going to make it so he’s no longer connected to this place.” As I fold my arms across my chest, I won’t lie, there’s a pout to my lips. “I thought you’d approve.”

    He blinks at me. “Oh.”

“Yeah. Oh. Watch it, buster,” I snipe. “Do you want to come with me, David? Or do you like this dump?”

Apparently I’ve astounded both men, because David’s ghostly lips work but no noise pops out. He looks like a silvery goldfish. When he gulps, I know he’s way too close to tears for my own comfort. “I’d like that,” he whispers, his tone quivery. “Kenna says it’s cool where you live.”

“It’s certainly better than this shithole,” I remark, peering around the admittedly grim bookshop. But, it’s not like if I pretty up the place it will make it better for its current residents. Ghosts actually come here because it’s, well, I guess it suits their mood. Ghosts aren’t exactly happy, after all.

  • Treasure Me by Michele Zurlo

I fell in love with David and Autum in Re/Lease (Doms of the FBI, #5).  I remember thinking how I didn’t want their story to end.  Treasure Me is the coninuation of their love story, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

Autumn is good at what she does, now she wants to prove it to everyone else.  David should have known that Autumn would never be happy just sitting there looking pretty doing nothing.

This book is fully of action both in the bedroom and out.  I love this couple, but am excited to learn more about the other agents in SAFE Security.

treasure-me1045-500Relocating to Kansas City with David and working for SAFE Security was everything Autumn thought she wanted…except that the job isn’t what she thought it would be, and her past seems to have a stranglehold on her emotions.

When Autumn takes a case without informing the rest of SAFE Security, she finds herself in hot water when secret victory blows up in her face. Her impulsive mistake almost costs their lives—and she soon finds herself jobless. Reeling from this failure and the way it’s damaged her relationships with David and the team, she vows to start fresh—with a new name and in a new city. Unfortunately a local crime boss has other ideas.

In the midst of a mission, David must rush back to try to stop Autumn from leaving—only to find that Autumn and her sister have disappeared. Can he find them in time to save them and his relationship with the woman he treasures?

In Treasure Me, Michele Zurlo delivers a sexy, action-packed adventure tale full of emotional twists and turns.

“Being manipulative with your phrasing doesn’t change the fact that there was a transgression, Sugar.” I squeezed one of her ass cheeks. “Tonight. I’ll leave the gag off. Right now, I want to show you how much I missed you.” With that, I captured her lips for a searing kiss.

Softening, she yielded to my dominance. I teased the seam of her lips with my tongue, and she opened to me. She slid a hand into my hair while the other one trailed down my chest. I ran my hands from her ass, up her back, to her hair, and back down again. I wanted all of her soft curves pressed against me. She moaned loudly, and with a vicious yank of her hair, I broke the kiss to trail sucking bites down the side of her neck.

She loosened my tie and worked the buttons on my shirt. “If I get your shirt off, it counts as second base.”

That was a challenge I couldn’t ignore. Her shirt didn’t have buttons. I lifted it over her head and unlatched her bra with expert precision. “Too late. I stole the base.”

She grasped my dick through the fabric of my pants. I felt the heat of her palm and the gentle pressure of her fingers. “I think I’ll take third.”

I finished removing my tie, and I used it to bind her wrists. “I’m holding out for a home run.”

Wearing only dress slacks and heels, she faced me with her breasts bared and her wrists bound. This travesty couldn’t continue. I undid her pants and eased them down her long legs, kissing her flesh as I went down. She rested her palms on my shoulder to step out of each pant leg.

Now she wore heels, plain cotton panties, and my tie—still too much fabric. Through her panties, which were soaked through, I kissed her mons. “You’re very turned on.”

“I know, Sir. Getting my hands on a new safe does that to me.”

This book has a little of every topic.  Abuse, AIDS, harassment, obsession, love, lust.  Caution:  you will cry at many points in this book.  Kellus is such a kind and gentle soul, that is, what shows through his art.  Arik is the epitome of the commitmentphobe, rich playboy stereotype.  He truly only has two joys, work, and the art he admires.
When Arik finally meets the man whose art he already admires, he fall of Kellus’s soul before he even meets him.
Another masterpiece from the pair that is Kindle Alexander.
Artist Kellus Hardin let love and loyalty cloud his past decisions, a mistake he definitely won’t make again. Now, lost and alone, he’s left to pick up the shattered pieces of his broken heart while facing the truth of his reality.
Arik Layne exudes power, confidence, and determination. But when an encounter with the guarded artist shakes him to the core and alters all his future goals, he finds more than just his heart on the line.
For Kellus, opening himself to love isn’t an option.

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.

  • Face-Off at the Alter by Toni Aleo

Wow just….wow!! Jealousy, hate, heartbreak, separation, fear, longing, hope, lust, then you look down to your progress in your book and it is not even half way done!  I love when a book does that.  Add in our favorite characters from the Assassins and Bullies and this book felt like coming home.  I cried in sadness and in happiness.  This is a great emotional book.

    Synopsis

    IMG_1722 (1).PNG

Markus Reeves is sucking. Big-time. Toiling away on a minor-league hockey team hundreds of miles away from home, he’s watching his dreams of an NHL career fade away. Add in the lingering guilt he has over the dramatic demise of his relationship with college girlfriend, Mekena, and he’s a mess on and off the ice.

But the family of his heart, the Sinclairs, won’t let Markus suffer any longer. When he arrives himself back in Nashville for a trial run on the Assassins, it feels like his life may be making a turn for the better. If only he could get Mekena to forgive him…

Mekena Preston has been hurting since fleeing Nashville following the horror of Markus’s betrayal with her sister. Now a professional photographer, Mekena finds herself in the same place at the same time with Markus to celebrate Lucy and Benji Paxton’s wedding. Neither of them has been able to move on—and they’re starting to wonder if they really want to.

They’re headed for a face-off at the altar unless they can confront their past and unearth the truth about what really happened on that fateful night.

    Excerpt
“You are, by far, the most patient man I know.”

Baylor grimaced as she took Dawson from Markus’s outstretched hands. He smiled as Dawson looked at him innocently. He knew the little guy didn’t mean to puke all over him and he wasn’t upset, but he was trying to figure out a way to get to the house and shower before he had to talk to Mekena. He highly doubted that baby puke would be an aphrodisiac. Maybe it would be? Huh.

He wasn’t going to try, though.

As Baylor cuddled Dawson against her, Markus waved her off. “It’s no big deal. He’s a baby.”
She smiled shyly. “Yes, but Ashlyn pooped on you too.”

He grinned as he shrugged, trying not to laugh. It was a tough rehearsal for Dawson, Ashlyn, and Markus. Puke and poop were big-time stars during the hour of watching the Sinclairs and Grace Justice try to put together a wedding. He wasn’t sure what was funnier, Jace glaring as Jordie walked with Avery, or Ashlyn farting and then realizing she had just shit all over him. It was a toss-up, but then Dawson decided to puke down the front of his shirt, and he figured he was now a substitute for a baby rag. “I volunteered.”
“Still, we’re really sorry,” Avery said, holding Ashlyn close as she rocked her back and forth. “I understand if you don’t want to watch her ever again.”
“Nonsense,” he said, laughing as he tucked his hands into his pockets and looked around. He spotted Mekena at the front of the altar, taking pictures of random things. He wasn’t sure if she was done, but maybe he could slip away. “How much longer until y’all are done?”
“We’re done, but Lucy and Benji have some pre-wedding pictures they’re having done with Angie.”
    “So Mekena isn’t done?”
Avery smiled. “Nope, she’s got a bit.”
“Can you pass a message for me?”
    “Sure.”
“Let her know that I went back to the cabin to shower and clean up?”
“Yeah, of course. I’ll tell Jace to tell her since I’m taking Ashlyn to bed.”
“Cool, thanks,” he said, kissing her cheek and then Baylor’s, before rubbing Dawson’s head. “I’ll see you guys in the morning.”
Before he could get far, though, Baylor smiled. “Thanks again.”
    “Anytime. I mean that.”
    Avery smiled. “Thanks.”
    “Also, good luck,” Baylor added.
Flashing them both a big grin, he nodded. “I need it.”
Heading out the back, he made it back to the cabin quickly. When he entered, though, Mr. Right was sitting on the windowsill howling. “Whoa, man. What’s up?”
Meoooooowwwwwwww, he wailed, with his mouth wide open as his hair stood on end.
“Bro, I don’t know what to say. I don’t speak your language. Are you singing? Do you want me to sing too? Meoooowwwwww,” he said, and Mr. Right looked back at him, almost with a glare. “We should add some beat to that and make a remix,” Markus joked as the cat wailed. Deciding that was a good idea, he pulled out his phone and started to beatbox as the cat wailed, recording it on his SnapChat. The cat must have realized what he was doing because he looked back, scowling, and Markus hid his phone. He didn’t want to admit it, but Mr. Right kind of freaked him out.

I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!

When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.

I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.

… and did I mention I love hockey?
