  • Kill Without Mercy: ARES Security #1 by Alexandra Ivy

    My Review

I have read every book in the Guardians of Eternity and Immortal Rouge Series, so I knew that Ms. Ivy could wear a wonderful tale in the paranormal worlds she creates. I have never read any of her other books and when I saw that this new series was coming out, I thought why not, I love reading her already, I will give it a try.

So happy I did. A band of brothers forged in hell turn to each other to help others. They each have their strengths and weaknesses but together, no one will touch them.

I love stories where you are just as into the story as you are the romance. I don’t know if that makes sense. It is when you kinda wanna skip the sex and mushy stuff to get to the story, but you read them anyway because, heck it is a romance after all.

Rafe is as hot and yummy as his name. Once he meets Annie, he just falls and when he realizes that she is in trouble, only he and his brothers do everything to keep her safe and find out who done it! I have to say I usually figure that out, but I didn’t this time. Only when Ms. Ivy wanted you to put it together did you, and then there is a twist.

    Devoured this book!!!!!

    Sunday Night
“Honey, you need to get laid,” Blaze bellowed before tossing back another shot of tequila. “You know, by some outrageously hot guy who’s gonna pin you against the wall and make you beg for mercy.”
I tossed my shot back before I answered her. “Not gonna happen.”
“Please don’t tell me that Adrian was the last guy you got horizontal with.” Blaze’s expression turned serious. “That dude’s the world’s biggest douche.”
“Can’t argue with you there,” I told her, pouring another shot. The last thing I wanted to do tonight was talk about Adrian. Or anyone, for that matter.
I’d spent the entire day at the shop handling three walk-ins, all of whom had wanted tattoos that took more time to prepare for than to actually ink. And now, I wanted to sit back, get wasted, then pass out and sleep until I felt better.
“How was the sex with him, anyway?”
“With who?” I asked, playing dumb.
Blaze narrowed her eyes at me. “Adrian.”
    I didn’t miss a beat before I said, “Boring.”
“Really?” Blaze snorted. “I always heard rock stars had it going on.”
“Yeah, well, I think rock stars are the ones who started that rumor.”
Blaze grabbed her shot glass. “You’re probably right about that.”
We downed two more shots, and our laughter continued until the front door opened and in walked Gavin.
As soon as he stepped in the doorway, he stopped cold, watching the two of us closely.
“Wussup, Gav?” Blaze greeted him, her words slurring. She looked at me and grinned. “He’s an outrageously hot guy,” Blaze said in what she probably assumed was a whisper but wasn’t.
“I definitely am,” he agreed, that mischievous smirk on his face. “Is this party just gettin’ started? Or are we about to turn on the decision-maker lights?” Gavin closed the front door behind him and tossed his coat onto one of the barstools, his eyes never straying from us.
“The night’s still young,” Blaze informed him. “Can’t say the same about you, though.”
Gavin continued to watch us. “How much have you had?”
“Not enough,” I admitted, reaching for the bottle to pour more shots. “Now quit acting like an old man and come drink with us.”
“Hold up,” Blaze said, snatching the bottle out of my hand.
“Not until he pays the ten-dollar buy-in fee.”
    “Buy-in?” A crease formed in Gavin’s forehead. “What the hell’s a buy-in fee? This ain’t poker.”
Blaze pointed a finger in his direction. “I paid for the booze, and you gotta buy in if you want some. Ten dollars.”
Gavin grabbed his wallet out of his back pocket, flipped it open, and pulled out a five-dollar bill, then tossed it in Blaze’s lap.
“Dude, who’s the one who’s been drinkin’ tonight?” Blaze slurred. “That ain’t ten bucks.”
“No, but you bought cheap booze, so there’s a fifty percent discount.”
“Fine. Whatever.” Blaze snatched up the money and tucked it into her bra.
I smiled at Gavin. “Grab another shot glass.”
After a quick detour to the kitchen, Gavin returned, setting his glass down beside the other two, then dropping onto the couch beside Blaze.
With an unsteady hand, Blaze filled all three but ended up with more on the glass table than in the shot glasses.
“What’re we drinking to?” Gavin asked.
“Hot guys nailing us to the wall,” Blaze blurted.
    I rolled my eyes.
“Ain’t no guy nailing me to the wall,” Gavin grunted. “Hot or otherwise.”
For whatever reason, I found that funny and ended up downing my shot and nearly shooting it out of my nose.
“I’ve got a question,” Blaze said when the laughter died down.
“No questions from you tonight,” I said immediately, glancing over at Gavin.
As usual, Blaze ignored me. “I wanna know why the two of you
    have never had sex.”
    “Not a question,” Gavin grumbled.
“Okay, fine,” Blaze snapped. “Have the two of you ever had sex?”
“Eww. No,” Gavin and I said in unison.
“Are you fucking serious?” Blaze did not sound convinced.
I placed my shot glass on the table but waved Blaze off when she started to pour me another. “Dead serious.”
    “Why?” She looked genuinely confused.
    “Because he’s not my type?”
Blaze’s eyes bounced back and forth between us before landing on me. “But he’s hot.”
Yeah, well, I didn’t think so. “I don’t see him like that.”
Gavin was watching Blaze intently and I knew this wasn’t going to be good. For the longest time, I’d gotten the impression that these two had a thing for one another. Although Blaze pretended to be interested in other guys—or maybe she wasn’t pretending—I got the feeling that if Gavin told her to get naked, she’d do it in under three seconds flat.
“What about you two?” I asked, realizing the liquor was now talking for me. “Why haven’t the two of you hooked up?”
Gavin grabbed the bottle and poured another shot, but I noticed he didn’t answer. I looked at Blaze.
“Y’all are best friends,” she said, as though that made some kind of sense.
    “So?”
“So, you and I are best friends,” Blaze added.
“Does that make us all best friends?” I asked, trying to do the math in my head.
“No,” Gavin noted. “It means we’re not willing to sacrifice that friendship.”

“Oh.” I watched the two of them for a moment. Then it dawned on me what he meant.
    Oooh.

I love Jude.  He takes responsibility for his sick sister and her children and will do anything for them.  He supports them by working for Jett by day, and fighting by night.  He feels he has too much baggage for love and feels that if he doesn’t take care of his family, he is a failure.  Callie is so selfless.  But, she was raised that way.  To give to others, that is.  When Jude needed help the most, his friends told him to shove it and that they would help him whether he liked it or not, especially Callie.  They have a connection that cannot be denied.  Once Jude finally gives in, their love explodes into a love we all dream of.

When Jude needs her the most, Callie is there.  With every breath she takes, Jude falls harder and deeper in love with her.  What woman wouldn’t want that?

    A Perfect Man for Christmas
An erotic serial in 12 parts

     5th Day of Christmas
    by Elle Boon

Wynter barely kept herself from ending the man standing in front of her with a slash of her talons. A sound behind them alerted her to the approaching group of partygoers. “You are a man who does not keep his word. For that, you will not find satisfaction again unless it is with your one true love.” She let her magic flow into him, knowing he had no clue he’d just been dealt a proverbial cockblock.

“Whatever.  You got off. I got off. I say we are even.” He turned away, stumbling into the wall on unsteady feet.

She decided the night had been a bust, but her body burned for fulfillment. Goddess, she wished for the green-eyed Michael. Shaking thoughts of him out of her mind, she headed toward the front of the club to catch a cab. There had to be a way–an easier way–to find the perfect man for her to bring. She’d look in the Book.

Laughing as she thought of the Christmas tale and why she hadn’t thought of it before. Five golden rings, and it had been five days, which now leads her to the Book–the sacred tome her family had kept as a diary of sorts throughout history. Surely if there was help to be had, it was in there.

“I need you to take me to the Warehouse District downtown.” She gave the cabbie the address. He eyed her up and down through the mirror.  Probably thinking she was a hooker in her club outfit. She kept her thighs together, not wanting him to get a peek at her panty-less state.

When she sat back, crossing her legs, she had no doubt he was hoping he’d get a glimpse. Wynter gave him a frosty glare. Michael would be able to help decipher some of the old text in the Book, and help her with her other problem.

A shiver of awareness and need worked its way over her flesh at the image of a naked Michael. Wynter hadn’t been paying attention to the passing scenery and was surprised to find the cabbie hadn’t taken her to the address she’d requested.

She rolled her eyes. “Excuse me. This isn’t the location I asked to be taken to.” Seriously, she wondered if her luck could get any worse.

“Listen, I know you’re a working girl. What’s your rate?”

Wynter laughed. “Darling, you can’t afford me. However, if you put the car in gear and take me where I requested, I will let you live.”  The threat wasn’t empty. She allowed her talons to lengthen, letting him see the black claws.

    “What the…what are you?”

“I am a client who you picked up and asked you to take somewhere. Now, take me where you were supposed to.” She sat back, her gaze fierce. “Don’t make me hurt you. The mess would be traumatizing for the both of us.”

He swallowed audibly, his pudgy face a deep shade of red, which was better than the deathly white he’d become when she’d had to flash her talons. Wynter swore the world was becoming nothing but idiots.

As the cab came to a stop outside the location of Michael’s office building, she was disappointed to find it dark inside. She’d been sure he’d be there. The man practically lived at his offices.

    “Fuck me running.”

“Not on your life.” The cabbie glared at her from the front.

Wynter rolled her eyes but spoke to him as if he was a child, which most men like him were. “Even if you were the last man on earth I wouldn’t screw you. Now, take me home.” She rattled off her address, already knowing she was going to put a spell on him. She couldn’t allow him to do to another woman what he’d try to do to her. The thought that some defenseless person would fall into a trap like he’d tried with her made anger burn in her veins.

When he stopped outside her home, the sound of the locks popping instantaneously was almost comical. Keeping her breathing even, she thought of the right words to say so the spell would take hold and last forever. She let her power out, a whip of lasting words lashed him. He jerked as if hit by a force much greater than a tornado whipping through the small vehicle. Satisfaction curled her lips when he slumped in his seat breathing hard.

“You will never harm another. Goodbye, little man.” Wynter tossed a twenty dollar bill into the front seat.

She hoped she found something within the Five Golden Rings tome that would help her in finding the perfect man. Her body still burned from unfulfilled desire, and she cursed the fact Michael wasn’t where he should have been. Her night had started with such promise.

“Gah, how did my life become such a dang mess?” Shedding her clothes on the way to her bedroom, she had a quick shower before flopping into bed naked. The cool sheets on her still overheated flesh did nothing to ease her.
