    Declan

    My Review

What is better than a new book by Cailyn O’Leary, a new SERIES by Caitlyn O’Leary!

This book is written very different from what we usually get from this author, however, it works really well.  I have loved and wondered about Declan from the first time we met him in the Midnight Delta Series.  I could always tell he had a heart of gold.  Funny thing about gold is that is a very soft and vulnerable metal.  Very fitting for Declan.

One of my favorite parts of this book, besides finally getting to know Declan’s story, is that we get to revisit some off the guys from Midnight Delta…..(cough….Drake)….hehehehe.

I really cannot wait to see what the Shadow Alliance has in store for us.  I look forward to learning more about the team and what they do.

You want to know about me? I believe in three things:  loyalty to my friends, helping those in need and
    the end justifies the means.

Spin-Off of Navy SEAL Midnight Delta Series

This is what you need to know. I keep the people around me safe, and sometimes I rain vengeance on my enemies.  It’s who I am, and what I do.

As a former Army Ranger, I get the job done.  After an unforgivable betrayal by one of my own, I created the Shadow Alliance.

We handle the dark and dangerous work, jobs that governments won’t.

And now, the sexy, smart, and feisty Allison Davies needs my help.

As an FBI Agent, enlisting my help could cost her job.

    But, I’m her only hope.

There’s only one problem.  Our mutual desire just might get in the way.  One misstep and we become the hunted.  A price I just might be willing to pay.

“I want to know about you. I want to know what makes you tick. What makes you happy. I want to know about Allison Davies. Is that so wrong?”
“I guess not,” she said hesitantly.
“We read the same books. Well, I don’t read the bare-chested men books. But that one that you re-read…I might have to buy that one.” She hit me on the arm. I’d hit a nerve.
I pressed closer until her breasts were against my chest. Heavenly. Her nipples hardened. Pulling her hips close to my body, I bent to nuzzle her neck, and drink in her scent. Fuck, she smelled good. Peaches again. I didn’t even realize my hands had moved until I felt the soft flesh of her tits. Oh God, had my dick ever been this hard?
But I needed to take it slow. Whether she knew it or not, she’d just admitted that plants were too big of a commitment for her. I didn’t want to rush her into sex, not until we’d broken down a few more barriers. But there was no way I was going to deny myself another kiss.
    “Declan, please.”
“I’m here, baby.” I brushed my thumb across the edge of her bangs and looked into the midnight depths of her eyes. I kissed her nose and was rewarded with a languid smile. Taking her hand, I guided her out to the living room. I sat down in the corner of the couch, and drew her onto my lap, she curled up like a kitten.
    “You’re so beautiful.”
She looked down and tried to hide her face with her hair. I tucked it behind her ear and trailed kisses along her cheek. “So beautiful.”
She shook her head. I kissed the tear that formed.
“Ah, honey. You make me ache. I watch you, and I want you. Your eyes draw me in and take my breath away.”
She shook her head again, but I could tell she was listening.
“I told Conroy to buy you that blue dress so it would match your eyes.”
Her breath caught, and she looked at me.
“You were an absolute mess. Nothing but a camp bath. But when you took the dress out of the shopping bag, I couldn’t erase the vision of you wearing it. Do you know what I did?”
She shook her head, and I hesitated, but her eyes were so shy and hopeful.
“I jerked off in the shower imagining you in that dress, Allie.”
    “You did not.”
I kissed the tip of her nose. “Did too.”
    She giggled.
    “Can I kiss you now?”
She wound her arms around my neck. “I want to kiss you.”
I waited. Her mouth parted, and she licked her plump lips. Jesus, I thought I might die. She pulled my head downwards, and I dove in. So soft, so perfect. And there was that electric shock again as we touched. She shivered. I stroked her long hair, and she moaned as our tongues met.
I traced her jaw, her skin was so soft and her mouth flowered open, allowing me to explore further. My hand moved to cup the back of her head and slid down to the bow that tied her dress. I hesitated.
    No, Declan.
    Yes, Declan.
By the time, the ‘Yes, Declan’ had been said, the bow was untied, and blue silk was drifting downwards.
    She whimpered.
“Are you okay?” I whispered against her wet lips. She nodded.
    “Words, baby.”
    “Yes.”
My hand cupped the silky texture of her breast, so warm and soft. I rolled her nipple between my fingers.
“Ahhh.” Her head fell back against the arm of the sofa. I bent and suckled. She gripped my head. Pressing me harder against the hard tip. She whimpered again, and I looked up. Her lips were open and shiny. I needed another kiss.
I surged upwards and took her mouth and plundered. My head spun. She moaned.
Oh God, this is not what I wanted for her. Not yet. I needed to slow things down because I couldn’t be trusted. I pulled away, then kissed her eyelids, and then her nose.
I tied her dress. Then because I couldn’t resist, I kissed her mouth again.
    “Are you sure?” she asked.
“I need more time to savor you, love. But know that this is killing me. I’ve never had a more beautiful woman in my arms.”
    She rolled her eyes.
    I pinched her butt.
“You listen to me and believe me when I call you beautiful. That’s the new rule.”
“Fine.” She sighed. “But if I forget, you have to kiss me.” I loved that little bit of self-confident sass.

    Kaufman

This book’s plot runs parallel with Rush’s book.  All the little things you had a hint of and wondered about Kaufman and Noelle in Rush’s book, is answered here.  It was really interesting to see what was actually going on.  It satisfied my curiosity of what was happening with Kaufman and Noelle.  Positive thinking has been around for a very long time.  If you build it, they will come right!

Hockey is probably the one sport that I actually know and for one of my favorite authors to set a new series around it, is totally awsome.  I loved how the two knew each other for years, were friends, and then became more.

    Synopsis

When I signed on to the NHL, I promised to give 150% to the game. I’ve done that.

Little did I know, but they would ask more from me than merely my skill on the ice. The team wanted me to be their captain. It’s an honor, one I’ve done my best to fulfill. Although I can’t take all the credit, I was there to lead when we won the Stanley Cup.

I’m still at the helm now, when we’ve hit rock bottom. I know I have let my fears get in the way. I’ve let down the team, even if they don’t realize what I’ve done.

Now that the new season’s underway, I’m being called out. I deserve it. I can deal with that. It won’t be easy, but I’ll persevere.

What I can’t deal with is her.

    She surprised me.

She came out of nowhere and blindsided me.

    And there’s one serious issue.

Now that I have her, I refuse to let her go.

*This is a full-length, standalone novel. It is part of the Austin Arrows series, but can be read independently.

The SEASON: Kaufman (Austin Arrows, 2) Chapter 1
    Noelle
    Thursday, October 6th
“I MADE AN EXTRA CHICKEN breast. You want one or two?” I chuckle, can’t help it. “Seriously. One or two? Can I possibly ask a dumber question?”
That unladylike snort … yeah, that was me.
While I fork my chicken breast onto my own plate, I don’t bother waiting for a response. I know what the answer will be. Two. Always two.  Extra protein is never a bad thing.
After adding a heaping spoonful of steamed vegetables to my plate, I grab my wineglass and head to the table. I’m starving because I missed lunch today. That sometimes happens with my job. There are days that’ll go by when I’m bored to tears, standing behind the bar, and others when I can hardly stop long enough to take a breath. Sometimes I’ll snag some fried pickles if I get a chance. Today was the lack-of-breath kind of day. Go, go, go. All day long.
As I step out of my small galley kitchen, a knock sounds on my door. My bare feet squeak on the linoleum as I come to an abrupt halt. I manage to do that fancy lift and tilt thing to keep my wine from sloshing over the edge.
    Disaster averted.
“Noelle! Honey, it’s Mom and Dad!”
    Or not.
“Crap, crap, crap.” I glance between my front door and the small, two-seat table in my breakfast nook currently set up with, nope, not one but two place settings. For the record, two is not a good number when the single girl’s mom comes banging on the door.
“Open up, Noelle! We thought we’d surprise you!”
Okay, well, I have to say my parents definitely accomplished their goal, because I am completely befuddled as I stand here debating what I should do. To a normal person, it might be a no-brainer. Open the door, let the ’rents come on in.
I’m not so sure this situation is going to qualify me as normal.
To answer or not to answer? That is the question.
On the other hand, I could be as quiet as possible and pretend I’m not home. Which, with my luck, won’t work. The fact that all the lights in my apartment are blazing and my baby blue Prius is parked directly in front of my window doesn’t help my cause any. Since no one else in the world drives a baby blue Prius, I can’t very well hide it.
    Crap.
But I could’ve gone out with friends, right? Could I be so lucky that they’d think that? It is a possibility. Maybe. Or, better yet, maybe they’ll think I’m at the Penalty Box. I tend to work a lot.
    Yes, that’s definitely more logical.
Except, yep, you nailed it, the car is here.
Then again, if I weren’t so pathetic and didn’t choose to spend all my free time at home—unless I’m at my best friend Ellie’s—it might be an easier sell. They know me. I’m not the going-out type. Plus, they’ve probably already stopped by the bar to see if I’m there. They know that I much prefer a microwaved dinner at home, especially on a rare evening that I don’t spend waiting tables and slinging beer because I choose to.
Another knock makes my heart skip a beat.
“Stay calm. It’s cool.” I’ve been telling myself that far too much lately.
“Noelle! Are you all right, honey?”
Knowing my grumpy upstairs neighbor is likely going to have a cow any second now, I rush to the front door, unlock the deadbolt, and turn the knob. Instantly, Marie Dexter barrels into me, pulling me into her arms, crushing my face to her generous bosom.
My mother smells like roses. A sweet, familiar scent that makes me hug her back, despite the inconvenient timing of her arrival.
“Hi, Mom,” I say, my words muffled against her boobs.
She pulls back to look at me. “What took you so long? I was getting worried.”
My dad slips past my mother, giving me a knowing smirk. Ed Dexter loves when Marie goes all motherly on me. Come to find out, when my sister and I aren’t around, he gets to be the one Marie mothers. Not that he minds. They’ve been married for thirty-six years, so he’s used to it, or so he says.
“Ooh. You got new curtains.” My mother gently pulls away to admire the floor-to-ceiling cream sheers hanging on the wide front window.
I follow her gaze, glaring at my car sitting right there.  Traitor.
I focus on the comforting hand my mother has on my arm.  Always keeping me close, that woman.
I’m the oldest—my sister, Julie, who is seven years younger than me, was an oops baby—which should’ve meant my mother didn’t coddle me quite so much. That isn’t the case. Never has been. I’m not sure if it’s because there’s such a huge age gap between me and Julie, but whatever the reason, my mother likes to baby both of us equally. I’m thirty-four. You’d think she would’ve toned it down by now. Nope. In fact, I think she might be getting more motherly.
Honestly, she’s been this way since I was little. And, truthfully, I was the normal kid. The kind who wanted to do nothing more than be outside. Yep, totally me. Right up until sixth grade, when we moved to Austin, next door to the girl who would quickly become my best friend in the world. Either there was something in the Texas water or someone injected me
with a doofus hormone, because upon moving here, I became stupid, which translates to: boy crazy. I think my mother worried about me more then. That lasted about two years. Three tops. When it became glaringly obvious that Tony
Something-or-other wasn’t going to fall madly in love with the short, frumpy girl with glasses and braces, I decided to focus on my schoolwork and left the flirting with boys up to my best friend, Ellie. She was much better at it than me.
Luckily, I’m not so frumpy anymore, and I’ve shed the braces and glasses. Sure, I’m still short, and my boobs never did really develop, but that no longer bothers me. I’m me. That’s what matters.
What does bother me is the fact that Mom and Dad pop in unannounced all the freaking time. Of all nights, why did it have to be now?

    Shifters Hallows Eve

    release-day

This is a wonderful collection of stories fitting to be read not only during the Halloween season, but anytime of year.  This collection has stories written by my favorite authors.  I could review each story individually, but I will just talk about two of them.

The first is Haunted Love by Lori King,  This is a really different kind of book.  Gideon had waited many years for Eden.  Now that he has her, he will not let her go without a fight.  I loved how Gideon remained untouched and spoke  the way he did when he was cursed.  It was like we go back in time only we didn’t.  Edens snark was funny.

The second story is Dark Lovers by Elle Boon.  You can’t get any darker in the Paranormal world than the son of Satan.  Like wow!  I was so happy that Raina didn’t know what was happening to her until she was safe in Jenna’s realm.  I love the Fae btw.  The fact that the Iron Wolves, Vampires, the Fey and Creed all team up to save Raina just makes me happy and read forgetting to do things like feed my kid or myself.

    Tempting Tristan

Don’t ask, don’t tell had many implications in the lives of the soldiers who couldn’t tell.  They had to hide a part of themselves from people they saw as family. That was particularly true for Alex.  Now that he is out from the army, he was ready to let loose and be who he is.  I love that he had a passion that translated to civilian life.

Tristan had gotten burned on to many times.   I don’t blame him for wanting to take a break from men, but when Alex walked into the bar, he just could not resist even though he tried.  I mean if a guy like Alex pursued me, he could tempt me anytime.

Loved this story.  Had tears in my eyes a few times.  Love is Love.

Fresh off the heels of yet another bad relationship, Tristan Brewer is taking a break from men to try and figure out where he keeps going wrong. He knows his biggest fault—he leads with his heart, not his head—and that’s never going to change. But after several introspective weeks, he’s beginning to get a handle on things. That is, until badass heartthrob Alex Wells walks into his bar…
Alex has spent eight years in the Army, months in a hospital bed, and far too long hiding his sexual identity. He’s guilt-ridden, damaged, pissed off, and up for a Silver Star—for the incident that nearly cost him his life, and kept him from his grandmother’s funeral. But all he wants to do is forget his stint with the institution that allows but doesn’t necessarily accept, and live the life he’s always dreamed of.
The chemistry between Tristan and Alex ignites from the moment they meet, and the more time they spend together the hotter the flames become. But the closer Tristan gets, the more Alex’s walls go up, and when the two walk onto a military base, Tristan finds out Alex’s physical scars aren’t the ones that run the deepest.

I love to cruise.  When I was single, i went on one with a girlfriend much like Kristen did.  It was freeing and so much fun.  Kind of like Vegas in a way.  What happens on the cruise stays on the cruise. When an unwanted admirer is near, hockey heartthrob Pasha is there to rescue her.  Luckily she doesn’t recognize him, but before long, he realizes that they have a connection and he really doesn’t want her to know it.  What starts as a friendship, turns into more. I was so upset at him for not telling her.  I could tell the secret would come out.  When it does, I could really feel her hurt.  I love when a story is so well written that it can make me feel what the character is feeling at that moment.
This past summer, I was able to meet Sophia during a BBQ.  I can’t tell you how awsome it is to meet an author you really love to read.  Thank you for letting me fangirl for a bit Sophia.

The author of Delayed Penalty returns with the story of a free spirit who believes she’s found forever with a playboy on a singles cruise. Discover why Kelly Jamieson calls the Pilots Hockey series “fun and flirty, warm and sweet.”

Kristen Katsaros wants a life full of adventure and laughter. After a difficult childhood, her motto is to live each day like it’s her last—because it just might be. So when Kristen’s parents send her on a post-grad singles cruise in the Caribbean to meet a Greek husband, she promptly hooks up with the hottest guy she’s ever met. Pasha’s decidedly not Greek, but Kristen gives him a pass because he’s got fun written all over his rock-hard abs.

Pavel Gribov, the cocky playboy of the Detroit Pilots hockey team, can score any girl he wants. But when a teammate drags him on a singles cruise, he can’t resist the chance to help out a drop-dead gorgeous damsel in distress by pretending to be her boyfriend. Before long, the fake fling turns intimate, fueled by something much deeper than lust.

Kristen and Pasha both agree to walk away once the cruise is over, but reality hits like a slap shot when Kristen finds out Pasha lied about everything. Just when she’s ready to start living again, the two stubborn survivors must decide if they can bear to lose the best thing that ever happened to either of them.

Getty Caster is running away from the abuse that clouds her past. She thinks she’s found the perfect escape—until she discovers a stranger in the beachside cottage she’d been promised. He’s undeniably sexy, but she’s there to heal. Alone.

Before long though, fighting with each other turns into fighting their attraction. And giving into desire sets off a chain reaction that has their pasts colliding. With an unexpected love on the line, can they overcome the fallout to build a future?

    EXCERPT

You don’t know anything about me.” My voice is slight but strong, my need to assert myself front and center despite his calling me on the carpet.

That’s where you’re wrong, Socks. I might not know where you’re from or why I ruffled your feathers today, but I know you’re stronger than you give yourself credit for. Whatever it is that you ran from back home, you did it. You got out and are making it on your own. That takes guts and you deserve mad props for that. I know you like things messy and are goddamn cute when you’re tipsy. I know you’re stubborn as hell and gorgeous as fuck. And that your kiss tastes like an aged whiskey: something I want to sip slowly, feel on my lips, savor on my tongue, and take my time with before I get drunk on it.” With a lift of his eyebrows and a nod of his head, he walks past me, leaving me with my mouth agape and eyes wide.

I can’t move. Just stand staring at the door in front of me as I try to process what he just said, what he meant by it, and yet there’s no use because we just had a whole one-sided conversation and that need to banter with him is gone. Lost to the tingling in my lower belly and the wild spinning of my thoughts.

Oh, and, Getty?” Zander calls out to me from the kitchen, refusing to continue until I turn to face him, standing there unabashedly shirtless. “If you ever call me pretty again, we’re gonna have a real problem. I guarantee you there is nothing pretty about me.”

I almost smile at the fact that out of all of the crappy things I said to him, that is the one that bugged him the most.

You are kind of pretty, though,” I murmur, unable to resist goading him further, needing to try to get us back on an even playing field. Because hell if right now I don’t feel like I’m on the low end of the teeter-totter.

His immediate response? A snort to signify that his chiseled abs and the tall, dark, and handsome thing he’s got going on are nothing more than average.

Last warning, Socks.” His eyes flash with mirth. And what looks like desire.

An unexpected part of me—the one who usually hides and doesn’t ever take a chance—wants to say it again. Just to see what he’d do if I did.

So damn pretty.” I don’t know who’s more shocked at my comment, him or me, but we stand there for a moment, gazes locked, unspoken words warring across the distance between us.

He walks toward me with a predatory gleam in his eyes and a salacious smirk on his lips that catches me off guard. “I know I said you were brave, Getty, but now you’re just playing with matches.”

I draw in a long inhale as he steps right in front of me. I can’t look at him. My nerve is suddenly gone. Outside, rain pelts the roof. The constant drip into the bucket in the hallway serves as a metronome to this anticipatory silence we are dancing in. The goose bumps on his chest are the only thing I can focus on.

When his thumb and forefinger direct my chin up so I’m forced to meet his eyes, every part of me hums from his touch. From the want of something I don’t quite understand myself and couldn’t ever put into words. Our eyes meet—his intense, mine searching for answers that aren’t his to give—before his gaze flicks down to my mouth and then back up again.

Not yet, Getty.” He closes his eyes for a beat, and I see what I think is restraint reflected in his grimace, before a ghost of a smile spreads on his lips. “I don’t think you’re ready to light this fire just yet.”
