I was standing in the middle of nowhere with no real destination in mind. There was only the dire need to disappear from Charleston. With my head tilted up to the gray sky and my eyes closed, I let the light droplets of rain fall onto my face. I’d reached a crossroads in my life and was trying to find a reason to keep going. I had no idea a hurricane was coming and fate would choose that moment for our paths to cross.

“Hey! You okay?” A voice called out to me in a deep southern drawl, pulling me out of my fog. “Can I give you a ride somewhere?” I opened my eyes and found a pair of intense blue eyes staring back at me. His name was Fox. He had an irresistibly sexy grin, and judging by his fast car, a need for speed. His timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I was looking to start a little trouble, since it was what I did best and he seemed like a good target. After sharing an incredible night together, I quickly learned that Fox was more than he appeared and full of delicious surprises. He gifted my body with unbelievable pleasures and unlocked emotions that I’d wanted to keep hidden. When I pushed him away, he left claiming a piece of my soul.

I never imagined that getting into his car that day would start a transformation within me and forever change the course of my life. Fox challenged every rule I’d ever made by tearing down the carefully constructed barriers around my heart. I never intended to fall in love with him but how could I resist a man who was so different than I’d expected and more than I ever deserved? The grayness in my life caused by loss and betrayal was waging a storm within me; Fox was the anchor I needed to stop the inner turmoil and bring me back into the light.

When Gwendolyn Grace is not daydreaming about fictional characters, she tries to be a fairly decent wife and an attentive mother. During the day she manages the office for a small maritime security company that fights pirates, just not the cool Johnny Depp kind. In her spare time, she is a blogger and book reviewer however writing has been her passion for as long as she can remember. She plans for many more steamy romances to come.

  • Welcome!

Welcome to the new SiK Reviews Website!!!

Due to Blogger’s newest biase of adult content, I decided to get my own domain name.  So, for my first post, I thought I would repost the story of how I came up with the name for my blog, SiK Reviews.  So here we go.

“Ever wonder how I got the name SiK? Well, in high school one of my best friends at the time was this guy. His name was Joe. We were hockey buddies….Go Isles!!! He and I were also Italian and spoke a lot of Italian swear words in Math. One day I started calling him BJ…..he is like what does that mean? I told him Brother Joe. So he thought and thought and started calling me SiK. (pronounced psych) Sister in Karen. So, when I was thinking of names for my blog, I figured that SiK was unique so I went with it.

Anyway, I wanted to put out there that I do reviews, but I am also willing to open up my blog to authors for tours and spotlights.

Personally, I am open to review books, but I also beta read for authors. It is something that I am finding I really enjoy. I do not charge for beta reading, but I ask that an ARC be given when the book is finally ready for release .  That way, I can review and keep a copy of something I had a hand in.

If you would like me to beta read for you ,or just review your book, please feel free to contact me by any means you wish.

My social media links are at the left, or you can use the Contact Me page.

Please feel free to leave me a comment and sign-up to receive my blog posts via email (on right hand side).

  • Godsend by Sloan Johnson

You can’t choose who you fall in love with. Despite knowing from a young age that he was gay, Scott Murphy couldn’t imagine life without Shelly. He threw away the labels and had eleven amazing years with her, but now, he feels even more lost trying to figure out how to move on after Shelly’s death. After nearly a year of watching Scott fade away, Shelly’s father forces him to start living again.

As much as Chris loathes the idea of attending a bereavement group week after week, it’s one of the only places he can go in this town, other than the bar, to not feel so alone. When there’s nothing to distract him or dull his senses, he spends too much time obsessing over how he should have been able to help his sister. When Scott shows up at his group session, Chris decides that maybe some good can come out of his sister’s death.

There’s no denying that Chris is the first man to catch Scott’s attention in a long time, but how can he move on when just thinking of Shelly sends him to his dark place?

The road to recovery won’t be an easy one, but Chris is determined to help Scott see that life is still worth living. But before Scott can allow himself to admit what he feels for Chris, he knows he has to reveal the full truth about Shelly’s death.

WARNING!!!! THIS IS A FIVE HANKY BOOK!!!

I finished Godsend in one day.  I was crying in the prologue for goodness sakes.  Sloan had me emotionally hooked and invested at the beginning.

This books centers around a very controversial topic, dying with dignity or physician assisted suicide.  At this time, Oregon, Vermont and Washington States have Death with Dignity Laws.   As of right now, New Jersey and California are in the beginning stages of adopting such a law.

I know it might be difficult, but leave your feelings about the subject out of how you read this book.  Scott and Chris do touch the topic a couple of times throughout the book, it is not the main story of the book.  Scott does talk about his feelings about how his wife, Shelly, first talked to him about it.  How he reacted.  And later, Chris talks about it as it pertained to a client of his.

This story really is about grief, and learning to live your life after loss.  It takes Scott’s father-in-law, Jim, to get Scott back to the land of the living.  Forcing him to go to a Survivor of Loss Group, Scott actually had appreciative thoughts of Chris when he sees him.

Chris see the new person in group and just can’t stop thinking of him.  It wasn’t until Scott stopped coming to group that he goes after him.

My favorite part of this book is that Shelly is a tangible character through the whole story.  She doesn’t move on until Scott does.  She is the one who spurs Scott to move forward with Chris.

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.

Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?

Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.
