• Avoiding Hell’s Gate by Flynn Eire

Did you ever read Avoiding Hell’s Gate by Joyee Flynn?  I know I did!  Well, on April 30, 2014, Flynn Eire (Joyee) re-released the revised and re-edited version of the book.
Stryker Magnus is born into a life no one would ever ask for, pray not to have even. But working for Hell has its perks, such as immortality, and Stryker’s far from evil. He’s really just the delivery man who hates his job.

Rafe Damas lives a lonely life, ignored by his only remaining family—his father. When Stryker and his brothers walk into his life, he’s in shock to learn the hounds of Hell are real… And they are there for him.

But when Stryker goes from trying to take his soul to Hell to protecting him, Rafe starts to fall hard for the man. How could he not for the man who rescued him and is helping him to see all that he’s missed in life.

When he realizes Stryker has a jealous temper and there’s much more going on than Rafe was  told, he starts to wonder if he made the right decision to trust Stryker. Even the chance for love—no matter how difficult it may be—has to be better than ending up in Hell, right?

One night a guy and a bunch of big dogs appear out of nowhere and then you proceed to learn how much of an ass your dad really is.  Oh, and by the way, this guy is a Hound of Hell and I am his mate.  This is Rafe.

You get an assignment from your boss to collect a soul only to find out this soul is clean.  When this guy senses you and and speaks, you hear his voice and realize that he is your mate.  You will now do anything to keep him safe.  This is Stryker.

I love how big bad alphas, like Stryker, turn to mush when they find their mate.  They will do anything and everything their mate needs and wants. Stryker becomes irrational and overbearing, and that does turn me on.  I can’t help it.  I know why he is like that and that just make it hotter.  I don’t want to spoil any more of the plot than what the blurb already states, so you will just have to go buy and read the book for more.

It doesn’t matter what name this author uses, she is a wonderful storyteller and I enjoy everything she writes.  I give this book 4 Hearts.

On May 22, 2014, the much anticipated (more liked begged and pleaded for) second book in the Hounds of Hell Series, Switching Teams, will release.   As of this post, I am about to read it and will post my review of same on that day.  I do know that Book 3 in the series will be released shortly after Book 2, and that Book 4 is still in WIP.

    Ciao!

For me, Jaime did it again!  What a wonderful love story!  Cam is such a loving brother and has such a kind heart, even I couldn’t stop from falling in love with him, let alone Hunter.  Poor overworked Hunter…..he was due to meet his other half and learn to have some fun.  He needed Cam.

My favorite scenes are when Hunter is in the diner watching Cam do Latte Art.  He looks at Cam with awe.  Jaime really lets the reader know how drawn; instantly in love; and obsessed Hunter becomes about Cam.  He will do anything for Hunter even clear the man he love’s name.

Cam and Hunter’s story is sweet and touching.  I even cried.  If you know me, you make me cry, I love the book!  And, I love this one!  BRAVA Jaime!   5 Heart Review!

After surviving ten years in prison, Cameron Pierce is attempting to put the past behind him. He tries to adjust to his newfound freedom with a place at the halfway house and a job. But one lesson he learned in prison keeps him guarded: hope is a dangerous thing.

Hunter Donovan, Assistant State Attorney, is a man of justice who loves a challenge. After a lifetime of putting his career first, a milestone brings him to a harsh realization—he’s lonely.

Hunter’s world changes when he meets Cam. The wary young man intrigues him and awakens a desire unlike anything he’s ever experienced. When Cam’s past resurfaces and threatens to rip them apart, their budding relationship is challenged and Cam’s hope for a future begins to dim.

These outside forces hunting Cam will stop at nothing to send him back to prison. But they’ll have to get past Hunter first.

    A Hunted Man400x600

    Chapter 1

Cameron Pierce didn’t really know what to expect when the entire nightmare began days before his eighteenth birthday, but here he was, standing behind a large metal door waiting for it to open and grant his freedom. Nine years, eight months, two weeks, and five days of hell. Even though he had to stay in a designated halfway house for the next few months, at least he wouldn’t have these bars or barbed wire fences to constantly remind him of his nightmare.

He fidgeted. In exchange for almost ten years of his life, the prison system gave him a hundred bucks for expenses during transfer, and a plain, standard-issue cardboard box containing his personal items—a watch, ten bucks, and a pack of gum. Everything broken or useless, which pretty much mirrored his existence. He ditched the box and everything else then pocketed the cash.

The gears of the large metal door ground as they inched open. Cameron shifted his weight from foot to foot, waiting for just enough space to squeeze through the door. He looked over to the guard and concluded he’d be better off attempting to walk out of this prison with a little dignity. At the pace these doors opened, he figured he’d age another decade in the process. He closed his eyes and counted, begging for a little patience to come his way. He finally heard the grinding stop and opened his eyes.

There, in the middle of the empty parking lot, Sam leaned against a car with crossed arms and a smile.

Cameron groaned as he finally exited the prison gates.

Mr. Samuel Issacs, rehabilitation officer, also secretly campaigned for sainthood every chance he had. His job was to help a group of assigned inmates rejoin the world with others but his mission was to mentor them. Sam wanted to talk, help, and offer support. Cam, on the other hand, knew better than to open his mouth, and he damn sure wasn’t going to risk Sam becoming some form of collateral damage.

Cam had learned that lesson the hard way.

“Hey, Sam,” he said once he arrived where Sam was parked.

“Hey, Cam. I thought I’d give you a ride to the halfway house instead of having you take the bus,” he said as he opened the passenger side door of the car.

Cameron waited, not sure if sitting in a car for hours with Saint Sam was a good idea.

“C’mon, Cam. I can guarantee you the drive with me will be better than a busload of people coming back from Universal Studios with stinky feet and a crapload of gas.”

    Cameron groaned.

Sam laughed. “Besides, I already filled out the paperwork so you’re stuck with me. Get in.”

Cam didn’t say a word. He climbed into the car, sat in the passenger seat, and then closed the car door.

    “Buckle up, it’s the law.”

    “Are you kidding me?”

“Nope, state of Florida, it’s the law.”

    “Since when?”

“Just strap in so we can get out of here.”

Cameron groaned again as he pulled the belt and clicked it in place. He hated the way it cut into his damn shoulder. Who knew what else had changed while he was in prison. Just another reminder of things he had missed. He shifted in his seat only to have his movement limited by the seat belt restraint.
    Wonderful.

Here he was, finally out of prison, yet somehow still found a way to be constrained in a small enclosed area. Hell, this was even smaller than the six-by-eight cell he’d called home for almost a decade.

    How ironic.

Hunter stood in line and watched Cam tend to the few lingering post-lunchtime customers. Cam’s smile came a little easier and his stance less guarded.

His body, although still lean, was tighter and a little broader from the yard work at the halfway house. A slight tan colored his skin now, the faint golden tone further accentuating the blue in his eyes and the white of his smile. His hair had a sprinkling of highlights as if the sun had kissed his head. Sunrises gave him hope, but they also seemed to awaken a natural physical beauty that had been hidden for far too long.

“How can I help you? Sir,” Cam said when it was finally Hunter’s turn at the register.

Hunter leaned over the counter. “You know that drives me nuts.”

Cam smiled and grabbed Hunter’s tie to pull him closer. “I know.” After a quick peck, Cam released him.

Hunter reached over and rubbed Cam’s stubble. “Are you letting this grow out?”

Cam shrugged. He looked away and scratched his growing scruff. “It makes me look older.”

“Since when do you want to look older?”

Cam shrugged again and fidgeted with the receipts.

Realization finally hit Hunter. He grabbed Cam’s chin and forced him to make eye contact. “Are you doing that for me?”

Cam’s mouth narrowed and his brows lowered. “There’s not much I can do for you. So if growing some hair on my face will make you feel a little less self-conscious, then I’ll grow a full fucking beard if I have to.”

Saw this and thought of Cam!

Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.

There’s a new game at LA’s most exclusive BDSM club, and everyone has to play!

Mae never imagined she’d be assigned to the most dangerous letter of alphabet… or paired with the most sinister Dominant in the club. The BDSM Checklist game doesn’t scare Xavier, but he prefers leather and steel, and the submissive he’s partnered with thinks silk ribbon is bondage equipment.

Pushed to her limits both physically and emotionally, Mae is shock to discover how much she enjoys Xavier’s touch. But in the end it isn’t just Mae who will be affected by the unexpected chemistry between two seeming opposites. Xavier will have to decide if he’s willing to trust the lovely sub with the truth about himself, as he proves to her that there’s a darkness in her—a darkness that just might match his own.Mae never imagined she’d be assigned to the most dangerous letter of alphabet… or paired with the most sinister Dominant in the club. When I received this book, I got so excited!  As you will see in my review of the first book in this series, my inner sub was very excited over the that book.  Ever since, my brain racked itself thinking of what BDSM terms start with B.    Beatings, Bondage and Branding…oh my……  Yes my inner sub loved the subject matter.  The story of Mae and Xavier is a thing of beauty on top of it.  Scared of her masochist side, Mae is known as a little girl sub, but the owners of the dungeon must have seen more.   Xavier was severely hurt in the past both on the inside and out, and those owners know exactly what his Sadist side needed, and brought X and Mae together to burn up my Kindle.   Again, the events, especially the branding scene, played out in my head like I was really there.  That is the type of book that can get my motor running big time!  I would like to see the books from here on out a little longer but that is my preference and has nothing to do with the quality or total droolworthiness (yes I made up the word, get over it!)  I give this book on droolworthiness to my inner sub alone 5 Hearts.

Now C is for ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh this is going to be fun!

When the overseers of LA’s most exclusive BDSM club declare the start of a sexy new game that all members must play, Anna has no choice but to participate. Master Jensen knows who, and what, he wants—Anna—but before he can have her he’ll have to prove to the lovely submissive that he can master every letter of the alphabet.

Lila Dubois called to my inner sub with her novella A is for…   Oh my did this story get my motor running!

The relationship between Anna and Master Jensen comes off the pages.  After a while, I was no longer reading the book, I was watching it!  It played like a really hot movie in my mind.  I love when a book can make me feel like I am one of the characters, or wish I was one of them.  Loved this story and deserves all 5 Hearts I have to give.
