• The Whiskey Prince by Toni Aleo

    WhiskeyPrince_high

    Take a risk.
    Do something drastic.
    Fall in love.

When Amberlyn Reilly loses her mother, her whole world comes crashing down. Having been caretaker to her for most of her teenage years, Amberlyn is inexperienced in many aspects of life. She hasn’t had time to live, have fun, or enjoy even the little things. It’s only when a letter from her mother, asking her to fulfill three things, sends her off to Ireland to live a life she never thought possible that she begins to heal.

Declan O’Callaghan was born and raised in Ireland and has his family’s legendary whiskey in his veins. He’s shy and not a fan of the pressure and spotlight that comes with his family name, or the title he was given at birth—the Whiskey Prince. Declan knows just what he wants and that is to take over the family dynasty, but when his father gives him an ultimatum, everything he’s worked for could come undone in the blink of an eye.

With six months to get married, the reclusive Declan spots Amberlyn across a lake and instantly feels the need to know her. Soon, the two find themselves traveling down a path neither expected. However, like any road, there are bumps and side streets to derail them. Can Declan help find the pieces that will make Amberlyn whole again? And will Amberlyn stay or run when she learns of Declan’s deadline of marriage?

This book had me tearing up within the chapter.  I felt so sad for Amberlyn.  Declan has no problem with the idea of marriage.  He just has problem with marrying without love.  My heart went out to him.

The book starts with a burst of a flame.  Then, the book simmers until it finally comes to a rolling boil, then ultimately to a full boil.  Like the frog who doesn’t know he is about to meet his doom, you don’t realize until the end how perfect this story really was.   I mean it just rolls along and then boom!  My heart broke into a million pieces.
I loved the irish accents that played in my head as I read.  It is amazing how your mind can enhance a story.  The relationship between Amberlyn and Declan is sweet.

The Whiskey Prince was a very touching story.  I give it 4 Hearts.

I cannot wait for the next book, Becoming the Whiskey Princess, next year.

My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.

I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.

I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!

When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.

I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably Belle.

… and did I mention I love hockey?

Melissa Andrea: I find it hard to sum up my life in a paragraph, but I’ll try.

Reading has always been a passion for me, and writing as instinctive as breathing. Every inhale is an idea; every exhale a creation. Flutter will be my debut release, and I couldn’t be more excited about it! The only thing I do better than writing you ask? Making beautiful girls. My daughter’s will always be my greatest accomplishment.

I was born in Denver, Colorado -but I will always think of sunny Arizona as my home. I don’t have a big family, but I’m close with my sister, brother & my mom. My mom is my hero, my inspiration, and I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing person to be raised by.

4 things you should know about me: I’m very girly, but I can get down and dirty with the best of them. I adore the color pink, I love things that sparkle (including vampires) and I like even numbers (hence 4 things about me, not 5)

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it’s been a dream.

Her passion for writing didn’t start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn’t long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa’s brain and The Love Series was born.

  • Fighting Insanity by Flynn Eire

    Fighting Insanity

Tierney Macfayden, newly appointed hound of Heaven, is prepared to do whatever he can never to work for Hell again and to live with the pain it caused him. Tasked with finding all the betrayed souls, these hounds have a new purpose in life. But after saving the first hundred souls, they needed to create a home for those they helped.

Kicking and screaming, Kellan Short refuses to believe the story a kidnapper tells him about saving his soul. He’s an atheist for crying out loud! Seeing Tierney, and truly wanting someone for the first time in his life, Kellan can’t believe it. His stepmother’s manipulations warped him into trusting no one, and he denies that Tierney is real.

Tierney wants to be there for his mate, but how do you help someone that believes you are a figment of their imagination or a drug-induced hallucination?

By continuing to be there for him.

Will they ever truly be together, or will they forever be fighting insanity?

Ok, I just have to say this up front.  This is by far my favorite Hounds of Hell book to date!  As soon as I was given this ARC, I downloaded it to my Kindle and finished it within a couple of hours.  I know my boss said something to me while I was reading, but not sure what.  Oh well.

I love how Kellan is so quirky in the beginning.  Makes you wonder why he acted the way he did in the beginning (see Excerpt below).

Like the other Hounds who found their mates, Tierney is tired of being alone at first.  At least he works for Heaven now, saving souls instead of condemning them.  Once he hears Kellan’s voice, he is thrilled he has found his mate.

Tierney has the patience of a Saint!  Helping Kellan come to terms with his situation.  Even taking Kellan to the doctor to prove he doesn’t have a brain tumor and that all of this is real.

I think one of my favorite characters is Ariel.  I was touched when she tell the doctor about his son.  Then again with the woman with the cattle farm.  Kellan touches her heart and mine with his gift.  I actually shed a few tears!

Once Kellan is convinced of his new reality, finding out Tierney is his mate was a piece of cake.  He might actually have a real life now.  That is, if the demon’s don’t get him first.

I really loved this story.  They just keep getting better and better!  5 Heart Review!

    Fighting Insanity Excerpt
    (Chapter 1)

I had no problem adapting to the new way of our lives. My four brothers and I were thrilled. Honestly, the second Colton said switch from working for Hell to Heaven, that was all we needed to know. I didn’t care if I had to start my five hundred years of service over or that I might never retire. The three hundred years I spent dragging souls to Hell ate at me. We might have only taken the ones that sold their souls, but it still was always ugly.

There were the ones who did it for selfless reasons that killed me inside to deliver. And now recently, Ariel the archangel had told me those ones should have been given a free pass because they made the ultimate sacrifice—themselves for another. So the knowledge that I had taken souls that weren’t supposed to even be there weighed on me.

    Heavily.

On the bright side, we were saving people now and I had a limitless supply of manual labor to work out my issues. Mondays we were going out with our angel partner and rescuing souls. The rest of the week, we worked on acclimating them to their new lives and moving their belongings to the new boarding school the angels built.

No, that wasn’t a sentence I thought I’d ever say either. And it had only been a little over a week so it wasn’t necessarily a routine yet but it also had promise.

I had just said my goodbyes to my angel, Nisroc, thanking him for his aid in my duties and looking forward to some rest. We were able to recover ten souls in one day because of him popping us all over the globe, which was huge, but also exhausting. Instead I was lugging in a sofa with my brother, Canice, from the moving truck of one of the richer families helping furnish the boarding school.
“I swear if you don’t stop, I’m going to beat you,” Dex Sethos growled, carrying a struggling young man over his shoulder. “Do we have a lockup for the unruly ones?”

“I changed my mind. I believe in guns now,” the man bitched as he pounded his fists against Dex’s back. “I wish I’d had a shitload when you broke into my house and kidnapped me! Yes, I’m being completely unreasonable.”

“My angel just flashed his wings and everyone we went for believed in what was going on real fast,” Canice chuckled, shaking his head. I wasn’t really paying attention though because that man’s voice triggered something inside me.

He was my mate. I knew it as surely as my name.

“We told you what’s going on. It’s not kidnapping,” Dex argued, his shoulders hunched in exhaustion. “Please don’t make me movie-slap you out of your hysteria.”

“Do not touch him!” I snarled, dropping the end of the couch and bolting over there. I didn’t think they heard me because the man was still struggling.

“Just because you slipped LSD into my water supply or something first doesn’t mean I’m going to buy angels and hounds came to kidnap me instead.” I heard a grunt that I suspected was Dex from something the man did. “Put me down!”

“Fine, you little shit,” Dex groaned and slid the guy off his shoulder. He would have landed hard to the floor if I hadn’t caught him in time. “Watch yourself, Tierney. He bites.”

“So do I,” I threatened as I coddled my mate, noting how every inch of him felt against me. “You will not slap him or instigate any other violence against this man.”

“As long as he stops kicking me in the balls and biting me, sure, he’s safe,” Dex drawled, blinking when I growled deeply at him. “Shit, man, I’m sorry. I won’t touch him again. Just be careful, he’s majorly pissed.” He held his hands up in surrender and took a couple of steps towards Canice—as if that would help him somehow.

“And atheist!” the guy snapped as he struggled in my arms. I set him on his feet, blinking my eyes when he immediately bolted for the door.

  • Obstruction by Peyton Sloane

    18802137

When Julian St. Sauveur, described in Architectural Digest as the “Rock Star of the Architectural World” was seated beside the bohemian woman on his flight to Paris, he never would have conceived how events would unfold…how this young widow would capture his mind, heart and soul so quickly and completely. She was a force of nature and his equal in every way — passion, anger, joy and just plain silliness.

Jazzmyne Mickelson took off on a journey of self- exploration and was likewise thrown off balance by the beautiful and urbane man who sat beside her.

He is curious, inappropriate and completely proprietary…she is fascinated, responsively inappropriate and swept off her feet. She is naïve and overwhelmed, thrilled and frightened in his presence. He is thinking he has found his greatest desires.

Barely begun, and tenuously fresh, Jazz and Julian’s relationship is tested by each other and the spectre of Julian’s burgeoning fame which accosts them at every turn resulting in deceit and terror.

Will they find a way through the obstacles together and stronger or will they be torn apart, broken beyond repair?

Ok, now I received this second installment of the Potential Trilogy last night.  All I have to say is, I devoured the book.  I finished it at 4am.  This continuation of Jazz and Julian’s romance was definitely a bottle book.   If you remember, a bottle book is a book where you are leaning it against anything so that you can continue reading while you are doing something else.  For me, it is usually the soda bottle on the kitchen table.  How dare my family want dinner?

The book was filled with hot sex, touching confessions, and drama that has you biting your nails one minute and crying the next.   I just could not put it down.

Jazz is such a strong heroine.  I wanna be her when I grow up!   Julian gets to show his softer side a bit more here.   He re-evaluates his idea of what kind of relationship he wants.  He realizes that he wants Jazz, but will he give up his old ways? I have fallen in love with him.   Le sigh…..  The book ends with promises, doubts, and another cliffhanger!!!!

I cannot wait until the third book, Realization, comes out in 2015!

Brava Peyton!  This is a 5 Heart book!

Find out as Jazz and Julian explore their potential…

I received this book to review and at first was like why  not give it a try.  At first it was like a pot of water put up to boil.  Might start off cold but slowly thing tend to heat up, and before you know it, it is at a full boil!  Jazz was on a plane to Paris to find adventure.  Little did she know that she would find it on the plane!  Julian is the sexy as hell billionaire who takes notice of Jazz and decides she is the one.  From there, the pages burn.  When they finally declare themselves Julian reveals what he wants from the relationship.  Is Jazz up for it?  Will she do it?   I don’t know because this book is a cliffhanger!!!!!!  NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!  Peyton, I need to know!!!!!!!
